I am trying to pull in a link to the entire photostream — regardless of tags, and I want to pull the more recent images more often. I was thinking of writing the function to do this based on a serial number for the date and a weighted probability function, but first I am interested in getting the whole stream. Maybe you would like to work together on this?
This is an interesting idea. It requires some coding using the Flickr API.
My intention is to keep Slickr Flickr simple by using the Flickr RSS feed so it is outside the scope of the work I would take on.
As a starting point you may want to take a look at the Flickr Gallery plugin which makes good use of the Flickr API
I will look at this feature again in 2011.
Flickr API was implemented in October 2010. The requirement to specify a tag was removed so it is possible to access the photostream.
However retrieving the entire photostream may run into bandwidth issues and fall foul of Flickr ‘fair’ use policy. Flickr guidelines recommend having not more than 30 photos per page. You could set the items to 30 and then allow the user to browse the photostream 30 at a time.
For example before=”today” items=”30″ gives you the most recent 30 photos; before=”today” items=”30″ page=”20″ gives you photos 31 through 60, and so on.
